South African sneaker laundry service The Sneaker Shack is looking to reinvent shoe care in South Africa, and after starting out as a small pop-up store in Joburg, it now cleans in excess of 3,600 pairs of sneakers - from rare limited edition sneakers to grimy gym takkies - each week.

Free and Clean self expression is important, in fact it’s EVERYTHING! If we can’t express openly and freely today, it’s hard to imagine a clean future @phume.jili #CleanConversations

Five years and 16 employees after he founded the first Sneaker Shack in Johannesburg, Lolo Ndlovu is setting up operations in Cape Town…

“Sneakers tell stories – whether it’s on trails up the mountain or walks along the promenade; at pop-up art exhibitions or in secret gin bars. Each pair has its own adventure; each has its own journey,” says Lolo Ndlovu, Founder of The Sneaker Shack.

The Sneaker Shack, a Johannesburg-based in-store sneaker care service, has expanded to Cape Town with its first branch located at Kloof Street Village.

After five years as Johannesburg’s leading sneaker care service, and with 16 employees as part of the team, founder Lolo Ndlovu decided it was time to expand. “We have been careful not to grow too quickly, and rather expand organically where our customers are taking us. 20% of our online traffic comes from Cape Town and there is a massive sneaker culture there.”

Cape Town, remember the 1st pair of sneakers you copped yourself? 😁 😎

Joburg, tell us what you have to say 🙋

“For me sneakers are an expression of your personality. The colors, comfort and silhouettes. Dirty things in general is something I don’t like and you can always see that in my clean kicks. Mainly, sneakers are an expression of who you are”. - @tusa_mamba

“For me sneakers are intelligent design, they’re as important as any decor piece in my house or wardrobe, keeping them clean is essential” - @antheaknowsbest

Wonderful to be in South Africa to help launch the new Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship. The Branson Centre has been supporting entrepreneurs in the country for many years, and has now been reimagined as a social enterprise supplier-development hub. Quite simply, we aim to become the heart of entrepreneurship for Southern Africa.
