Since we began operations in 2017, we have grown to 6 stores across Johannesburg and Cape Town, launched an on demand service and we are now taking on a new challenge, sustainability.

“Environmentally friendly”, “carbon neutrality” and “sustainability” are not just marketing claims but statements of commitment to our planet and our future. We want to ensure that in providing our customers with a service, we are also being aware of our impact on the planet and are focusing on how we can minimise our impact.

Why is sustainability important to address?

Sustainability is important for a very simple, very straightforward reason: we cannot maintain our quality of life as human beings, the diversity of life on Earth, or Earth’s ecosystems unless we make a change. The root of that change lies in understanding and striving for sustainability starting with ourselves, in our homes, in our communities and in our daily operations at The Sneaker Shack.

How we are making a change

In a perfect world, every individual and business would have a zero carbon footprint. Meaning that nothing we do or buy would emit carbon dioxide. Practically speaking, this is impossible.

We are rather focusing on reducing our carbon footprint as much as we can instead, educating our community and recycling to drive less waste through various initiatives.

Our Initiatives

In Store Operations

As part of our goals for 2021 is to be completely plastic free by the end of 2021. From the tools that our technicians use to packaging and branding. In the instance where we have to work with a plastic item, whatever it may be, we have to ensure it is not a single use plastic.

We have launched Project Run, a programme with a mission to collect and donate sneakers to grass root development projects around South Africa. We are encouraging our customers to drop off a pair of preloved sneakers in donation boxes in all of our stores. With our customers' donations, we are aiming to assist the School of Hard Knocks who help aspiring young athletes.

Clean Conversations

Free and clean self expression is important, in fact it’s EVERYTHING! If we can’t express ourselves openly and freely today, it’s hard to imagine a clean future. We encourage our online community to engage with us to speak openly about a clean future and have partners with influencers to reward them for doing so with a unique discount.

We stand for a cleaner, healthier and happier Mzansi.
